Important Acronyms related to freight inquiry – Part-1

–>POL = Port of Loading
–>POD = Port of Discharge
–>NWC = Northwestern Europe/Continent
–>USEC = United States East Coast
–>USWC = United States West Coast
–>DV = Dry Van (DV), or General Purpose (GP)
–>HC = High Cube
–>ENS = Entry Summary Declaration Charges
–>AMS = Automated Manifest System
–>OVW = Overweight Surcharge
–>PSS = Peak Season Surcharge – Extra surcharge applicable during peak season.
–>CY/CY = Container Yard to Container Yard
–>C&F = Cost, and freight (CNF)
–>FOB = Free on Board
–>Pre-Carriage – any inland movement that takes place prior to the container being delivered to the port/terminal
–>ETD= Estimated time of departure
–>Port of call = an intermediate port where ships customarily stop for supplies, repairs, or transshipment of cargo
–>ETA = Estimated time of arrival
–>The DOC cut-off is also called ‘administrative closing’ = The B/L instruction (including container no.’s, weight, and commodity) is required prior to this Cut Off, in order to insert the same in the loading list.
–>The Verified Gross Mass (VGM) Cut off = The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has made amendments to the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) convention indicating that all shippers must comply with mandatory container weight verification requirements, or Verified Gross Mass (VGM), effective July 1, 2016. The VGM cut-off date and time are mentioned in the booking confirmation and will be equal to or just before the ‘DOC’ Cut off. 
–>The Physical Cut Off = the container needs to be delivered fully to the terminal prior to this cut-off in order to be accepted by the terminal. Cut-Off set by the terminal. Also called the Physical or Terminal/Cargo Closing. After this cut-off, the container will not be accepted on the terminal anymore.
–>BRC = Bunker Recovery Cost 
–>EBS = Equipment’s imbalance Surcharge
–>CCC = Container Compliance Charge
–>ISPS = InternShip & Port Security
–>SPD = Small Parcel Deliveries
–>USC = Unit Shipping Container.
–>CUC = Chassis Usage Charge  
–>GRI = General Rate Increase
